Student Leadership System

In our school the Prefect Body and the Students’ Council have important roles to play. These two bodies, the latter being democratically elected by students, must seek at all times to uphold the honour of our school and they must, in addition to their specific duties, support discipline and order.

The Prefect Body

The Prefect Body consists of a number of students from Grades 11-13 who have applied and selected by a committee to be a prefect. Their central task is to enforce and maintain discipline of the highest standard among students. In carrying out their tasks they should be guided by the Student Handbook and by personal high standards of conduct.

A prefect is assigned to each class and is expected to be present at the class during registration and devotional activities, all other functions at which students assemble, as well as give supervision during lunchtime.

The Prefect does not have to be present at the class for ‘Form Time’ sessions; however they are expected to assist the Form Teachers of the classes to which they are assigned.

The Head Boy and Head Girl will be selected from among the prefects. They shall be the leaders of the Prefect Body as well as of all students. They also preside over the meetings of all Prefects.

Guidelines for Prefects

  • From March 30, each year, applications are open to any Grades 10-12 students who would like to become a prefect.
  • Applications will be processed and selected persons invited to an interview. Prefects will be in place by June 30, to be trained during the summer break.
  • Prefects will be assigned to classes in time for students’ Orientation.
  • Prefects shall meet at least once fortnightly to evaluate their performance and discuss problems they encountered and solutions found, or to find.
  • All such meetings are to be ‘minuted’ and copied to the faculty advisor assigned to the prefects. (Those teachers will copy the Grade Coordinators, Dean and Vice Principals.
  • Execution of assigned duties shall be duly recorded in the designated log books as required by the school.
  • A prefect may be relieved of the position if their behaviour or quality of performance such as breaking rules or improper behaviour outside of the school warrant same.
