Board of Management
The Board of Management is headed by a chairman who is appointed by the government to leads a group of elected and appointed officials, who lead the strategic planning for the school on behalf of the Ministry of Education. The role of the school board is to ensure that our school is responsive to the values, beliefs and priorities of our communities and stakeholders. The Board fulfils this role by performing five major responsibilities:
- Setting direction
- Establishing an effective and efficient structure
- Providing support
- Ensuring accountability
- Providing community leadership as advocates for children, the school-based leadership team and the region
These five responsibilities represent core functions that are so fundamental to a school system’s accountability to the public that they can only be performed by an elected governing body. Authority is granted to the board as a whole, not each member individually. Therefore, board members fulfil these responsibilities by working together as a governance team with the Education officer to make decisions that will best serve all the students in the community.
The School-based Leadership Team (SLT) is headed by the Principal who provides oversight to the daily operations of the school. Each campus is assigned a Vice principal that manages daily operations and reports to the Principal. The Vice Principals are assisted by a cadre of senior teachers who also assist in ensuring that all tasks, relevant to the effective operation of the school, are effectively and efficiently carried out.

You have an opportunity to pursue studies that will provide you with employability skills and improve your chances of being able to participate in many of the industries of the future.
Over the almost 50 years of existence, our school has undergone several changes, all designed to improve the quality of educational offerings to our students, parents and staff. This is aligned with our school’s ethos of continued improvement. This is a true reflection of the spirit of the philosophy of the name we bear, that of the Right Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey. This son of the soil, and first national hero lived a life dedicated to improving the consciousness of Jamaicans on the power of positive thinking ad knowledge of self, and our great nation’s history. We are convinced that attaining excellent academic performance, pursuing the development of one’s talent and becoming socially conscious are not mutually exclusive. In fact, we believe that these must be simultaneously pursues as one strives to become a productive citizen.
As a school, we aim to become trailblazers in the field of technical and vocational education. It is our desire to contribute to the future of our country’s educational landscape by continuing to be innovators as we prepare students for the jobs of the future.
As Chairman of the Board of Management, it is my pleasure to pledge on behalf of the Board, that we will continue to be relentless in our pursuit to Garvey, “we will not be defeated in the race of life, we will be ambitious in the desire to go forward and improve our condition. It is a burning flame that lights up u rife and makes us see ourselves in another state. To be ambitious is to be great in mind and soul. To want that which is worthwhile and strive for it. To go without looking back, reaching to that which gives satisfaction”.
